Salesforce Acts on Climate Crisis by Supporting #FridaysForFuture Movement

Mankind is faced with an urgent and important crisis – climate change. People all over the world are already experiencing the effects of climate change. And Salesforce is no stranger to this global issue.

In keeping up with their philanthropy and commitment to help mitigate climate change, Salesforce showed their support for the #FridaysForFuture movement starting last March 2019. This commenced after the tech giant posted a tweet about it on their official Twitter account.

What Is #FridaysForFuture Movement?

It all started when a 15-year-old lady named Greta Thunberg did a three-week protest at the Swedish parliament in August 2018. She sat in front of the building each school day to advocate for better climate change actions. She posted all of these actions on Twitter and Instagram, and they instantly became viral.

Greta then decided to continue her protests every Friday since September 8, 2018. The hashtags #FridaysForFuture and #ClimateStrike began to spread and went viral around the world, with many people supporting Greta’s actions.

Greta’s Friday strikes finally mobilized the Swedish parliament to start acting on climate change. Her successful movement was dubbed as #FridaysForFuture and paved the way for other nations to start similar campaigns for climate change outside their respective local city halls and parliaments.

How Salesforce Supports #FridaysForFuture

Salesforce is deeply involved in several climate change activities. The cloud computing giant believes in utilizing technology to positively impact the environment and lessen the harmful effects of climate change. Some of Salesforce’s initiatives include

  • The Benioff Ocean Initiative
  • Step Up Declaration
  • Salesforce Sustainability Cloud

Salesforce also strongly believes in youth empowerment. And this is what Greta Thunberg and the entire #FridaysForFuture movement exemplifies. The tech giant supports Thunberg’s efforts by continuing to promote climate change initiatives.

Salesforce’s Vice President for Sustainability, Patrick Flynn, even tweeted a photo of him and fellow Sustainability Team members on a seemingly #FridaysForFuture event, with several people holding posters of globes and oceans with the words “Save Our Future” emblazoned on it. He posted the tweet on 15th March 2019, indicating Salesforce’s support for positive climate change actions.

In a Nutshell

#FridaysForFuture is a global youth movement that aims to seriously push world governments toward creating laws and initiatives to address climate change. It was started by Greta Thunberg and became a huge worldwide success.

Salesforce shows its support for the #FridaysForFuture movement by joining youth gatherings aimed at addressing the climate crisis. But more than just the tweets and hashtags, the tech giant especially focuses itself on creating technology-based solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change worldwide.
